Going to School
Going to School
Starting school is a significant milestone for you and your child. We’re committed to working with you for great outcomes for your child at school.
We hold information sessions for families prior to your child commencing school. These are attended by Consultants from the Department of Education and Communities, the Catholic Schools Office and representatives from independent schools who will provide valuable up to date information. These sessions are also opportunities for you to discuss general issues about transitioning to school.
This year a 15 week transition to school pilot program is available to children and families during the second half of the year. The aim of this program is to make sure everyone involved is ready for the transition: your child and family, your school, Hunter Prelude staff and anyone else involved.
This unique program is based on research from families and schools as well as Hunter Prelude’s experience and focuses on the things that will make a big difference to the transition: socialising and making friends, being familiar with the classroom and school, following directions and being used to routines.
The program will include group and individualised sessions.
We can also support you before, during and after your transition to school by working with your school, participating in Learning Support Team Meetings, developing resources and offering support at orientation visits.
Hunter Prelude can continue to provide support to your child until the age of eight.
Other services and supports may be available to you and your child Contact us if you have a particular need or concern and we’ll be happy to discuss it with you.
