KIDS with special needs in Kurri Kurri and Cessnock have a new playground, thanks to donations from the community.
The Hunter Prelude Early Intervention Centre’s playground opened yesterday, after the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation contributed $73,000.
The centre also received up to $6000 funding from other donors.
Rani Dibley, the centre’s director, said the old playground was in desperate need of a makeover to make it safer and so it could be used by babies, toddlers and young children.
“There’s special climbing equipment, a safe swing and lots of tactile features because some children need a lot of sensory input,” Ms Dibley said.
Applications for the next round of Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation funding close tomorrow.
